Switched from Windows to Linux 6 months ago, here's what nobody warned me about

Been using Linux for 6 months now, and I've gotta say, it's been mostly smooth sailing. But there's one major thing that's been giving me headaches - compatibility with my older peripherals. Specifically, my old external hard drive enclosure has stopped working entirely since I made the switch. I've tried to troubleshoot, but the drivers just aren't available for the Linux kernel. Don't get me wrong, this is totally my fault for not doing my research beforehand, but it got me thinking - how many others out there have had similar struggles with Linux compatibility? What kinds of quirks did you guys experience when you made the jump to Linux?

Expected seamless integration, got frustrated lowkey

Yeah, seamless integration's a myth, I ran into problems with my Logitech mouse on my HP laptop, had to manually install the drivers, and even then it didn't support the scrolling feature

Oh girl, expected seamless integration with my Adobe suite, got frustrated lowkey too... month 2 of using Linux was when I realized I had to relearn how to use my beloved Photoshop because the shortcuts are literally opposite. like, who does that?! I'm still on that learning curve, but I'm determined to figure it out

I switched to Linux a bit after you did, and I'll say this - I was prepared for some steep learning curve, but it's the little things that get me every time. Like when my mom calls me because she can't figure out how to make a simple .dll file compatible on my desktop, and I'm like 'um, mom, that's the windows way of thinking', I'm still figuring out how to gently break that kind of mentality without losing her, you know?

I was literally expecting a utopia after six months, no more viruses, no more crashes, I'm the god of computing, right? But what nobody told me is that Linux can be a beast with wireless drivers - I mean, on my old laptop, I had to reboot like 3 times a day before the Wi-Fi just decided to work - tal...

What were some of the specific tasks or software that stopped working for you after two months, and did you have to find alternatives or workarounds?

First time posting but i have to say, the thing nobody warned me about is just how quickly you start to notice every little quirk in your distribution when you use it for an extended period - like how my current distro's file manager will occasionally freeze for half a second when copying large files to an external drive

i've been trying to get my grandparents to switch from their Windows computer to my Mint install for a few months now, but honestly, it's been a daily struggle to explain basic things like how to save files in a different folder - reminds me of trying to teach my niece how to ride a bike, everyone wants it to click, but sometimes you gotta learn to fall a little first.

But actually Linux has Wine which allows you to run Windows apps, and also many Linux distros have repositories for Android apps, so you can use apps like TikTok on Linux too tho
