Apple releases AirPods Pro 3 firmware 3.0.1, improves connectivity and features

Apple has rolled out a new firmware update for its AirPods Pro 3, adding support for iOS 27 and fixing a handful of bugs that users reported after the latest iOS release. The update, version 3.0.1, is now available through the iOS Settings app under “Bluetooth” for any AirPods Pro 3 that are paired with a device running iOS 27 or later. According to 9to5Mac, the firmware can be downloaded automatically, or users can trigger it manually by putting the AirPods in the charging case, opening the lid, and tapping the “Update” prompt that appears.

The update comes after a wave of complaints that AirPods Pro 3 lost connectivity or stopped charging properly when the host phone was upgraded to iOS 26. Apple’s engineering team has reportedly spent the last few weeks addressing those issues, and the new firmware is designed to keep the earbuds in sync with the latest OS changes. In addition to fixing the connectivity glitches, the release brings a number of refinements that are intended to improve everyday use.

Users will notice a smoother transparency mode that now adapts more quickly to changes in ambient noise, as well as a new “Spatial Audio” option that offers a more natural 3‑D listening experience on supported iPhones. Battery life has also been tweaked; the firmware introduces a more efficient power‑saving mode that can extend talk time by up to five minutes on a single charge. Other fixes include a correction for the “charging case stuck on” bug, a patch that stops the AirPods from going into a low‑power state when the case is left open, and a minor UI tweak that clarifies the battery level when the earbuds are in use.

With the firmware now in the wild, Apple is expected to keep the AirPods Pro 3 line fully compatible with future iOS releases.
