Asian stock markets traded mixed on Friday, reflecting a cautious sentiment among investors following fluctuating performances on Wall Street. The mixed trading was largely influenced by a downturn in technology stocks, which mirrored the losses seen in the tech-heavy Nasdaq. Traders are also wary ahead of the upcoming U.S. Federal Reserve monetary policy meeting, where a quarter-point interest rate hike is anticipated.

In Australia, the stock market showed modest declines, reversing gains made in the previous sessions. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 Index fell by 24.80 points, or 0.34 percent, to close at 7,300.20. The broader All Ordinaries Index dropped 27.60 points, or 0.37 percent, to finish at 7,514.30. Key contributors to the decline included gold miners and technology stocks, with Afterpay owner Block down more than 2 percent and Xero declining over 4 percent. In contrast, some major miners like Rio Tinto and BHP Group edged up slightly.

Similarly, Japan's stock market faced losses amid turbulent trading. The Nikkei 225 Index slipped 72.60 points, or 0.22 percent, closing at 32,417.92. This follows a trend of sharp declines from the previous day. Technology stocks were particularly hard hit, with Advantest and Tokyo Electron both losing nearly 5 percent. In the banking sector, however, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial saw a slight gain of almost 1 percent, providing a small counterbalance to the overall downward trend.

The mixed performance across Asian markets underscores the cautious outlook as investors brace for potential changes in monetary policy from the Fed. With the Aussie dollar trading at $0.678 and ongoing fluctuations in both commodities and tech stocks, market participants will be closely monitoring economic signals in the coming days to gauge the implications for future trading.
