Houthi rebels intensified their attacks in Yemen's Taiz governorate early Thursday, leading to a new wave of displacement. The offensive targeted the Maqbanah district and adjacent areas, forcing residents, including those who had already fled previous conflicts, to abandon their homes once more.

The escalation follows a period of relative calm along Yemen's frontlines. The Houthis launched this offensive using missiles and drones, marking their most aggressive ground fighting since 2022. Abdullah Saeed, a displaced resident now living in the al-Rahabah camp, expressed his despair as he and hundreds of other families were caught off guard by the sudden violence. Saeed had previously fled Maqbanah in 2022 and hoped to return, but now he finds himself displaced again, fearing for his safety.

The renewed clashes have resulted in significant casualties, with dozens of fighters reported killed on both sides. Military reinforcements, including troops and vehicles, have been sent by both the Houthis and Saudi-backed government forces, who claim to be pushing back against the insurgents. The situation has grown dire for the displaced families who are in desperate need of shelter and basic necessities, as they are now facing yet another humanitarian crisis.

This latest round of conflict is part of Yemen's ongoing civil war, which began in 2014 when the Houthis seized control of the capital, Sanaa. As fighting escalates, the prospect of peace seems increasingly distant, leaving many like Saeed yearning for stability and the chance to return to their homes.
