The Iranian Red Crescent Society has called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate a U.S. missile strike that hit a wedding party in the town of Kuhestak, southern Iran, on Tuesday night. The attack resulted in at least four deaths and left dozens more injured, with the organization emphasizing the need for an independent and thorough inquiry into the incident.

The timing of the Red Crescent's appeal coincides with heightened tensions in the region, as the U.S. has recently intensified military actions against Iranian targets near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. The strike on the wedding occurred around 9:30 p.m. local time and reportedly killed two women and two children, aged four and 16. Iranian authorities have warned that the death toll could rise, given the critical condition of many of the injured, most of whom were also women and children.

The Red Crescent highlighted that the attack could constitute a war crime under international law, which prohibits strikes against civilians. In response, the U.S. Central Command acknowledged reports of the incident but maintained that it does not target civilians. Iranian officials, however, have pointed to a pattern of similar U.S. strikes in Iraq and Afghanistan to refute this claim. Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack, calling it a severe violation of humanitarian law.

Iran's envoy to the United Nations urged the Security Council to denounce the strike, labeling it a “horrific and appalling crime.” As the conflict escalates, the situation remains precarious, with Iranian authorities claiming that thousands have already died in the ongoing hostilities. The ICC's potential involvement could escalate international scrutiny of U.S. military actions and their impact on civilians in the region.
