Screens are a major part of our life, but that doesn’t mean screen fatigue isn’t real. We carry our phone everywhere with us, and when we’re not out and about, we’re staring at other screens. That’s a problem that AR glasses-maker RayNeo is trying to solve with its new iO Smart Glasses.

First things first: Yes, the glasses themselves have a screen, but that’s not necessarily a contradiction. RayNeo’s aim is that its new glasses’ tiny display is all you’ll need to quickly glance at information, eliminating the urge for you to unnecessarily reach for your phone and make your tech interactions overall less disruptive.

According to the company, the device uses the Firefly Engine Nano, a 0.1cc monochrome green MicroLED display that’s ultra-transparent and compressed down to 0.6mm. Because of its discreet look, the tiny display remains hidden from external observers, all while information appears within your line of sight with up to 1,300 nits of brightness.

The glasses weigh 33g, which is about average for non-smart glasses. Within that lightweight frame, the company has been able to tuck a 240mAh high-density cell, four mics, and a VPU bone conduction sensor. There’s also an Apple Watch Ultra-like crown to move through menus, and an accelerometer + gyroscope to sense movement for head gesture control.

It’s worth noting that the iO Smart Glasses’ bone conduction sensor is strictly for input only, and doesn’t output any sound. The company says that the glasses were made with the idea of zero noise distraction in mind, and hence, the company deliberately chose not to include any speakers or similar audio-output hardware. The integrated VPU bone conduction sensor, instead, works in tandem with the glasses’ mic system to capture “vocal cord vibrations and accurately isolate your speech from surrounding ambient chatter.”

Despite all that tech included, the glasses are still IP54 dust and water resistant, which means they can withstand splashes and light water sprays, making the device suitable for daily regular use. The aforementioned 240mAh cell is reported to last up to 48 hours with typical use and up to 96 hours on standby. The company offers an optional $69 charging case, though it didn’t provide relevant information about how much additional battery life it offers.

Hardware aside, RayNeo’s main pitch with the iO Smart Glasses is their ability to significantly cut down the need to reach for your phone. The company indicates that simply glancing upward brings up your personal dashboard with your schedule, alerts, and even weather. On the other hand, the glasses understand context from conversations and meetings, and highlight key action items for you to add to your calendar. They even offer real-time text translation across 40 languages, eliminating the need to pull out your phone when you see a menu that’s not entirely in English.
