Teledyne Technologies Inc. announced on Friday that its subsidiary, Teledyne Qioptiq, has secured a significant order from the German Bundeswehr for PHOENIX-XR cooled thermal weapon sights, worth over $21 million. The deliveries are scheduled to start early next year and will align with the Bundeswehr's deployment timeline.
This order is part of a larger framework agreement announced previously, which has a total value of up to $175 million. The contract marks a pivotal moment for Teledyne Qioptiq, as it will result in the delivery of more than 1,000 PHOENIX-XR units to Germanyโs Ministry of Defence. This procurement is noted to be the largest for cooled thermal weapon sights in Europe for the company.
The PHOENIX-XR is a sophisticated thermal weapon sight that utilizes cooled Medium Wave Infrared technology, designed for long-range precision targeting. This advanced system enhances the operational capability of armed forces by providing superior thermal imaging in varied conditions, crucial for modern battlefield engagements.
Following the announcement, Teledyne Technologies saw a slight increase in its stock price, closing up 0.25% at $607.87 on the New York Stock Exchange. However, shares traded lower in after-hours, dropping 0.91% to $602.34. The successful execution of this order and the accompanying framework agreement could bolster Teledyneโs position in the defense sector and enhance its reputation in the European market.
