John Pye, co-founder of John Pye Auctions, has died at the age of 95. The company announced his passing on Tuesday, expressing deep sadness at the loss of a man who played a pivotal role in transforming a small auction house into an industry leader.

John Pye and his wife, Ann, launched their business in 1968 in Nottingham, starting as a partnership known as "Furniture & General Auctions." Over the years, the company evolved significantly, specializing in probate house clearances and private asset disposals. In 1990, it became incorporated as John Pye & Sons Limited, relocating to larger premises to accommodate its growing client base. The business expanded further in the 1990s with the acquisition of the former Shipstone's Brewery site, marking a major step in its development.

The firm has seen notable advancements, including a shift from live traditional auctions to 24-hour timed auctions in 2007. Today, John Pye Auctions operates multiple hubs across the UK, including locations in Derby and Birmingham, and even has a site in Zaragoza, Spain. The company credits its success to John's vision and determination, along with the hard work of his colleagues over the years. The firm stated, "He was immensely proud of what John Pye & Sons has become," highlighting his lasting legacy.

In their statement, the Pye family thanked the community for their kind words and support during this difficult time. John Pye's larger-than-life character and positive influence will be missed by many. His contributions to the auction industry and the local community have left an indelible mark, ensuring that his spirit will live on through the company he built.
