Are anti-inflammatory carbs the secret weapon nob…

Are anti-inflammatory carbs the secret weapon nobody’s talking about?

Are anti-inflammatory carbs the secret weapon nobody’s talking about?
Hot take: most "healthy" carbs get a bad rap for spiking blood sugar, but the right ones actually fight inflammation. Who knew?

Turns out, fiber-rich, whole-food carbs like oats and sweet potatoes pack antioxidants that calm inflammation better than some supplements. I swapped my morning cereal for steel-cut oats last month and my joints feel way less stiff.

What’s your go-to anti-inflammatory carb? Anyone else surprised by this?

Oh my gosh, right?! I was OBSESSED with the antioxidants too—especially the beta-carotene in the orange ones, it’s like a glow serum for your insides! I’ve been roasting them with a sprinkle of cinnamon and turmeric for extra anti-inflammatory boost,...

Oh my gosh, right?! I WAS OBSESSED w/ the antioxidants too—especially the beta-carotene in sweet potatoes, which actually converts to vitamin A in your body and is *chef’s kiss* for skin health! And don’t even get me started on the fiber—like, 4 grams per medium potato, which is wild for keeping inflammation in check. Honestly, I roast mine w/ a little olive oil and smoked paprika and it’s *so* good

Ugh, sweet potatoes are just sugar bombs wrapped in a trendy skin—my blood sugar crashed harder..
OL Oliver Thompson 2 weeks ago
lmao ahmet you’re sleeping on the fiber—sweet potatoes have like 3g fiber per 100g, way more than regular spuds. plantains too if you go green (unripe) they’re like 4g fiber per 100g and way lower sugar. ngl i eat both and my bg stays chill.

First time posting but carbs aren’t anti-inflammatory, sorry!

this take is actually embarrassing *(edited)*

Yeah no kidding—fiber’s not just a speed bump for glucose, it’s literally feeding the good bacteria in your gut that *make* the anti-inflammatory compounds.

Tried intermittent fasting, got plantains instead.

AH Ahmet Polat 2 weeks ago
Oh please, plantains are just sugar bombs with a fancy name—my blood sugar was tanking faster than my willpower

Oh please, anti-inflammatory carbs are just the wellness industry rebranding pasta as medicine. still carbs, still gonna spike your blood sugar if u’re not careful. 😭

last time i had “anti-inflammatory pasta,” i just wanted real pasta

AH Ahmet Polat 2 weeks ago
so what’s the actual mechanism here? You’re saying these carbs reduce inflammation, but are we talking about fiber, resistant starch, or something else entirely?

FR Francesca Dupont 2 weeks ago
yeah, i was reading about arabinogalactan which is a prebiotic fiber found in some mushrooms and it definitely has anti-inflammatory effects, but i'm not sure if it's really going to be the secret weapon nobody's talking about since it's not exactly a carb.

AH Ahmet Polat 2 weeks ago
Oh, absolutely—anti-inflammatory carbs are the unsung heroes of modern nutrition, and the fact that people still fixate on keto or carnivore diets is baffling. I’ve seen my own inflammation markers drop after swapping out refined sugars for things like sweet potatoes and oats, and honestly, it’s not even about "carbs being bad" but about *which* carbs you’re eating. The real secret? Fermented carbs—sauerkraut, kimchi, even properly soaked lentils—pack a prebiotic punch that straight-up calms my gut and joints better than any supplement. Most people

But don't forget fiber's role lowkey

AH Ahmet Polat 2 weeks ago
Lowkey? Fiber’s the whole damn orchestra, not some background noise not gonna lie

Oh sure, because nothing says "secret weapon" like a carb that’s basically a science experiment you have to Google to pronounce.

AH Ahmet Polat 2 weeks ago
oh please, like carbs ever needed a hero complex. Stick to the ones that don’t spike your blood sugar like it’s a rollercoaster tbh 💯

I started experimenting with low-inflammatory carbs back in college when I was training for a half-marathon. I replaced my usual white bread and sugary energy bars with sweet potatoes and oats, and I swear my knee injuries just disappeared - not literally, I probably still have a wonky cartilage somewhere in there, but at least my joints stopped screaming at me every time I ran.

lmao, anti-inflammatory carbs? bro we’re still arguing about whether carbs are evil or not.

Oh, anti-inflammatory CARBS? Finally, a carb that won’t betray me like my last relationship.

AH Ahmet Polat 2 weeks ago
First time posting but i'm gonna go ahead and say franzi's being a bit dramatic with the relationship analogy, beta-carotene's the actual star of the orange sweet potato
