Why Twitter’s dead and Threads isn’t saving it

Why Twitter’s dead and Threads isn’t saving it
Reddit’s where the real convos happen now. Twitter’s just a dumpster fire of ads and Elon memes, and Threads? Cute try, Meta, but nobody’s leaving Reddit for your half-baked Twitter clone.
I’ve been on all three daily for years and the shift is obvious—Reddit’s communities actually discuss stuff instead of screaming into the void. What do you think?

I completely agree with you that Twitter's dead and Threads isn't saving it, at least for me. What I've noticed is that the people I've been trying to connect with on Threads are the same people who were already sharing and engaging with each other on Twitter, so it's not really expanding the reach or creating a new community. I've also lost a lot of old tweets because Twitter's algorithm has changed so many times - I've had to manually save a lot of my old conversations and funny tweets to external platforms because I couldn't rely on the old site to keep them around. *(edited)*

Wait, dead how? Like, no one’s posting or just no one’s engaging fr fr

Wait so what made you realize it wasn't working for you? was it something specific like an algorithm change or just a general feeling of disconnection? *(edited)*

wait, why do you think Threads isn’t saving it? I’ve been using it a bit and it feels like a ghost town compared to Twitter—like everyone’s just lurk..

What do you think is the biggest hurdle for Threads in actually pulling ppl away from Twitter, beyond just the initial hype?

LI Liesel Schulz 1 month ago
i’ve noticed the same thing—Twitter feels like a ghost town compared to THE chaos it used to be, and Threads is just… not the same. Do u think it’s the algorithm or just the vibe shift? 😭

What about user engagement, though? 💀 *(edited)*

I've been saying this stuff since 2012, but nobody wanted to listen - Twitter's algorithms and the constant shifting of the 'optimal' tweet length have fundamentally altered the way we interact with the platform, making it more noise than signal, and that's what's driving people away to alternatives like Threads

actually 💀 *(edited)*

Oh man, I *knew* Twitter was doomed the second they let the algorithm decide my feed instead of the people I followed. Like, who even *are* we anymore if the app’s just screaming into the void?

Ugh, Twitter’s death feels so inevitable now, like watching a slow-motion car crash where u already know the outcome. Why does Threads feel like it’s just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic instead of actually fixing anything? I keep seeing people act like it’s the second coming, but where’s the magic?

but what about the people who never left? They’re still there, just quieter

LI Liesel Schulz 1 month ago
But are they influencing anyone?

Ugh, I get what you’re saying, but “quieter” doesn’t mean “harmless.” I still lurk in those niche corners of Twitter where academics and weird niche hobbyists trade takes, and honestly? They’re the only ones still posting thi..

threads is just twitter with a worse algorithm

Oh man, I *need* to know what actually made Twitter feel dead to you—was it the algorithm, the vibe shift, or just the endless doomscrolling? 😩

I remember when Twitter was just people arguing about *The Wire* recaps—now it’s all ads and crypto bros. Threads feels like a ghost town where my old college roommate posts about his dog’s vet visits

That’s a bold take—Twitter’s not exactly dead if it’s still the go-to for breaking news and live events. What do you think Threads is missing that would actually pull people back in?

OL Oliver Lewis 1 month ago
why tho

First time posting here but I keep seeing ppl say Threads is the future—like, why does it feel so much like a ghost town too? I joined it just to see, but it’s all the same faces reposting the same jokes with no real conversation.

LI Liesel Schulz 1 month ago
Wait, but have you compared the ALGORITHMS? Threads’ feed is way more chronological than Twitter’s now, which is a huge shift. 🤦

LI Liesel Schulz 1 month ago
oh man, I was just scrolling through Threads the other day and it felt like I was back in 2012 Twitter—like, the feed actually *moves* in real time instead of dumping me into some engagement-optimized void. I remember trying to follow a live protest in 2020 and Twitter’s algorithm kept shoving me random memes about the latest celebrity feud instead, ugh
EL Elif Kurt 1 month ago
Threads is just twitter with a better font

First time posting here but I've been fascinated by the whole Twitter-Threads situation, and it's interesting to hear people say it's saving Twitter when I feel like the opposite is happening - like, are users just switching platforms without really changing their behavior?

SE Sebastian Rivera 1 month ago
I still remember when Twitter was the place where breaking news happened in real time—like when the first images of the Notre-Dame fire popped up before any news outlet had even confirmed it. Now? It’s just ads, spam, and the occasional viral meltdown. Threads feels like a ghost town where my old tweets go to die unread. But what about the people who still use it for niche communities? Doesn’t that count for something?

LI Liesel Schulz 1 month ago
First time posting but isn’t the real question why threads isn’t saving it? like, what’s the actual difference between the two beyond the name

BO Boris Novikov 1 month ago
Lmao why is this exactly my life not gonna lie

OL Oliver Lewis 1 month ago
I joined Twitter in 2009 when it was just a bunch of tech bros and journalists shouting into the void. By 2014, it felt like a family BBQ where everyone knew your name—now it’s just a stadium where half the crowd is selling merch.

I've noticed ppl calling Twitter "dead" since its takeover, but is it possible that the platform itself hasn't fundamentally changed, and it's the perception by users that's shifted? Has anyone actually looked at the numbers or engagement metrics for T..
