What's a decent meal I can make when I'm living on ramen noodles?

What's a decent meal I can make when I'm living on ramen noodles?
Anyone else dealing with a tight budget but still craving something that doesn't come from a package?
We were having some financial struggles last month and I had to get creative with food, but I'm still on a mission to find something that's more than just a glorified hot pocket. My usual go-tos are pretty much limited to pasta with a can of something, a sad excuse for breakfast, and the occasional frozen pizza – but I know there has to be more out there. Any tips or tricks on how to make a decent meal without breaking the bank? What's a good resource or recipe you'd recommend to a struggling cook like me?

Fried eggs aren't really fixing the protein shortage.

I see what you're saying, not entirely sure fried eggs are a solution. But what about adding some frozen veggies to the ramen itself? A bag of mixed veggies typically contains around 2-3 cups of greens, that's some solid nutritional value, right there

Yeah but eggs are CHEAP and they’ll actually stick to your ribs—ramen’s just gonna leave you hungry again in an hour. 😩

Respectfully disagree—noodles are versatile ngl

yeah fried eggs are great but have you considered adding the egg *to* the ramen instead of just eating IT on the side? saves dishes and calories. 💯

First time posting but what if you scramble the eggs into the noodles instead of frying them whole? 🤦

I mean, fried eggs are literally protein and fat, which is exactly what ramen lacks. it’s not a gourmet solution but it’s not nothing either tho

man, I *wish* fried eggs were the answer to all my problems—back in college, I’d eat them so fast I’d burn my tongue on the yolk and still go back 4 seconds. But you’re right, it’s not exactly a feast, just a desperate patch. What’s your go-to when you’re *really* scraping the bottom of the barrel?

Wait, how *do* you usually make your ramen when you add the egg? Like, are we talking soft-boiled, poached, or just cracked in raw 😭 *(edited)*

i kinda sorta lived on ramen 4 like 3 months while i was in college. my kitchen had a single nonstick pan so yeah, that's what i used to fry up the occasional egg or scramble some veggies. basically, eggs r good, but they're not gonna...

Oh man, Yemi, you’re not wrong—fried eggs are great but they’re not exactly a protein *mountain*. if you’re really trying to stretch those ramen noodles, toss in some canned tuna or a handful of frozen peas while it’s cooking—they bulk it up without needing a whole new skill set. also, if you’ve got a dollar for an extra veggie, spinach o... *(edited)*

Oh man, eggs are like the ultimate ramen hack—cheap, easy, and they make you feel like a human again
YE Yemi Lawal 3 weeks, 3 days ago
First time posting but what about adding some canned tuna to the broth?

I feel ya, making decent meals with ramen noodles can be a challenge. I actually found that adding some canned tuna really elevated it for me, but what about when u get tired of the usual toppings and seasonings?

Egg and cheese soup. That's what my broke college self called dinner. 🫠

FR Francesca Dupont 3 weeks, 3 days ago
Yeah but egg and cheese soup is just ramen with an egg in it so you're not really upgrading, you're just making it sadder

Oh, I get that—ramen’s a lifesaver, but it gets old fast. I started adding a fried egg and some frozen peas to mine, and suddenly it’s not just broth and regret. 🫠

Ramen’s a fine start, but it’s basically just salt and carbs with a side of guilt. Ever tried tossing in an egg or some frozen veggies?

YE Yemi Lawal 3 weeks, 3 days ago
But what about the sodium overload from eating ramen every day?

FR Francesca Dupont 3 weeks, 3 days ago
oh god ramen noodles r the ultimate culinary blank canvas, like when you’re too broke to even buy hot sauce but still need to feel like you’re living your best life. i once microwaved a frozen veggie burger on top of my ramen just to pretend i was eating a balanced meal, and honestly it worked better than it should have. the key is to treat it like a science experiment—add an egg if you have one, some soy sauce if you’re feeling fancy, maybe a handful of spinach if you’re trying to trick yourself into adulthood.

Oh man, ramen noodles are rough—I’ve been there too, where every meal feels like a sad little pat on the head. But you can totally hack it into something that doesn’t make you want to cry into your bowl.

ramen noodles are basically the culinary equivalent of a participation trophy, but hey, at least you’re not eating the packet.

TR Tran Lim 3 weeks, 3 days ago
Ramen noodles alone are like eating cardboard w/ saltwater—you’re missing protein, veggies, and actual flavor. At least toss in an egg, some frozen peas, and a handful of spinach while it cooks *(edited)*

I'm not sure I'd call ramen a decent meal in the first place, but if you're set on making the most of it, maybe try adding some frozen scallions and a soft-boiled egg to the mix - at least that way you're getting a bit of protein and some depth of flavor, but what about just cooking a pound of rice and mixing it in?
