A startup called Generation Lab says it has developed an injectable drug cocktail that may slow or reverse aging by rejuvenating blood cells. The treatment, called 1 Generation, combines two existing medications: rapamycin and alpha-ketoglutarate. The company has begun offering it to early testers, including journalists, after claiming success in lab studies.
The push comes as the anti-aging field heats up, fueled by record investment and growing demand for life-extension therapies. Rapamycin, originally an immune-suppressing drug, has shown promise in extending lifespan in animals. Alpha-ketoglutarate is a natural compound linked to cellular repair. Together, they target pathways tied to aging, including mTOR inhibition and mitochondrial function. Earlier this year, a small human trial in Singapore used a similar combo and reported improved immune function in older adults.
Generation Lab says 1 Generation is not yet FDA-approved and remains experimental. The companyโs fact sheet claims early users have seen โmeasurable improvements in energy, skin tone, and cognitive clarity,โ though no peer-reviewed data supports these claims. Independent experts caution that while the science is promising, translating lab results to human aging is still years away. The startup plans to enroll 100 people in a six-month safety trial later this year.
