Why does nobody talk about the documentary "The Act of Killing"?
It’s one of those films that haunts you long after the credits roll. I watched it last night and still can’t shake how it made me feel—equal parts fascinated and deeply uncomfortable. The way it flips the script on perpetrators of genocide by letting them reenact their crimes in the style of Hollywood movies is genius, but also so messed up.
I knew it was a documentary about the Indonesian killings, but nothing prepared me for how surreal and disturbing it would be. The directors didn’t just film interviews—they let the killers *direct* their own crimes as if they were action heroes. It’s brilliant, but also feels like a violation in the best possible way.
Anyone else seen this and felt the same way? What’s a documentary that messed with your head like this?
