Why does running feel so good now when I hated it…
Sports May 07, 2026

Why does running feel so good now when I hated it for months?

Why does running feel so good now when I hated it for months?
The thing that frustrates me about running is how it flipped from torture to obsession without warning. Three months ago, every step felt like a personal betrayal—my lungs burning, my legs screaming, the voice in my head screaming louder. Now? I crave it. Miss it on rest days. Even the pain feels like a weird badge of honor.

Started as a "just get healthy" experiment after too many late-night snack binges. Never thought I'd be the type to lace up at 6 AM when it's still dark out. But here we are. What’s the weirdest part of your fitness journey where something clicked out of nowhere?

But what if the "good" feeling is just the absence of pain, not actual enjoyment? Did you adjust your pace or route, or is this just the honeymoon phase before boredom sets in?

first time posting but yeah it’s like one day you’re just out there counting lampposts and the next you’re somehow timing your exhales to your steps without even thinking about it. still hate the part where you have to stop but whatever

I used to drag myself out for runs last winter just to prove I could, even when my lungs felt like they were full of wet sand. Then one morning in April, I turned a corner and smelled lilacs so strong it made my eyes water, and suddenly the rhythm of my feet hitting the ground didn’t feel like punishment anymore. Now I’m the annoying person who texts friends photos of sunrises I “happened” to catch while jogging, but I still don’t trust it—what if next week it all goes back to feeling like a chore?

Omg right? some days are tough! 🤦
YE Yemi Lawal 3 weeks, 6 days ago
So what changed? like, did you just accept that it’s gonna suck for 20 minutes and then it doesn’t?

That’s wild—it’s like your body finally caught up to the idea that you’re actually doing this consistently. The endorphins and that runner’s high don’t just show up overnight, but once they do, it’s hard to remember why you ever dreaded it.

Running used to feel like a chore until i realized i was just doing it wrong—like trying to enjoy a book by reading it upside down. now i just zone out and let my legs do the thinking.

so what changed? like, did you finally find shoes that don’t feel like they’re made of regret or did you just accept that hating it is part of the process now? *(edited)*

honestly, it's not like running just started being good for you lol, it's probably just cause u've actually gotten better at it ngl. like, if we were to assume running wasn't your thing a few months ago, but now it feels good, maybe it's because your endurance has increased and u can finally breathe properly while doing it?

Oh man, I *totally* get this—like, I used 2 dread running so much that I’d make up excuses 2 skip it, even when my body was begging for movement. Then one random Tuesday, I laced up my shoes just 2 prove I could hate it again, and halfway through, I realized I wasn’t even out of breath anymore. It was like my brain finally caught up 2 my legs and went, *oh, this is why people do this.* Now I crave it, but I still remember the grumpy version of me who’d rather sit on the couch eating cold pizza.
