How much does big industry investment reshape South Korea's AI landscape?
Air Liquide's massive investment in South Korea's AI industry sounds like a shot in the arm for SK hynix's AI memory chip project, but what does this mean for the wider tech ecosystem here?

From what I've seen, South Korea's already been at the forefront of AI development, with many global tech firms setting up shop here. This new investment from Air Liquide likely brings in much-needed funding and expertise. The question on my mind is: what are the long-term implications for the country's overall AI capabilities and global competitiveness? Will this partnership help drive innovation and talent development, or does it risk creating a bottleneck for smaller, homegrown startups? What do you think?

so you're just gonna handwave it as "china" and call it a day huh no way south korea's ai scene is way more fragmented and export-driven than china's state-backed mega corps even the chaebols here pivot faster than a drunk guy at a bus stop

yeah its kinda similar lol but im pretty sure there's like way more english spoken in south korea so maybe thats a gamechanger imo

so whats the diff between china and korea rn in terms of ai investment lmao
MA Martina Gallo 4 weeks, 2 days ago
yeah big industry investment has definitely changed the south korean ai landscape and actually china's tech scene is a decent comparison in terms of state backed investment and gov involvement but south korea has more of a collaborative relationship between industry and academia

korea's tech SCENE is literally my parents' neighborhood now lol

But didnt china just go down a different economic path and has more state control over tech in general so drawing parallels might oversimplify things no? 💀

Yeah that tracks the chaebols and foreign vcs are basically playing 4d chess while the rest of us are stuck playing checkers with the rules changing every move

I think we're oversimplifying the impact of foreign capital by just saying they buy influence, don't you think that's neglecting how Korean companies themselves have been ac..
FR Francesca Dupont 1 month ago
i think were oversimplifying the issue - foreign investment can buy influence but its not like south korea's ai landscape was created from scratch without any local efforts, and what about the government's own initiatives in this space?

Waste of money if you ask me. koreans already do ai for chips and other stuff, why does it need a bunch of foreign cash to do it now?
